Bend Garbage & Recycling is now Republic Services.  Your bill will have a different look and account number (some account numbers will remain unchanged).  None of this will impact the current service you are provided or the rates you pay for those services.

Your account number is in the top right corner of your invoice, along with other key information such as the invoice number, total amount due, and due date.

Please have your garbage and recycling carts out by 6:00 a.m. or the night before on your service day. Place at the curb with roll cart handle toward the house, lid opening toward the street. Keep four feet of clear space on either side of cart. Do not place behind parked cars. Please do not block sidewalks or bike lanes.

Although we try to be as consistent as we can, pick up time may change each week depending on traffic, construction, staffing, or other circumstances. We ask that your materials be curbside for collection by 6:00 a.m. or the night before on your collection day.

You can temporarily suspend your service while you are out of town. Please call us in advance at (541) 382-2263 to ensure credit is posted to your account. Special conditions apply to yard debris subscription service.

Bend Garbage & Recycling drivers work all holidays except Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.

If Christmas Day and New Year’s Day fall on a weekday, your garbage & recycling collection will be one day late for both holiday weeks. For example, if Christmas falls on a Thursday, Thursday customers would be picked up Friday. Friday customers would be picked up Saturday.

For all other holidays, the drivers are working so please have your carts out by 6:00 a.m. on your normal collection day.

The Bend Garbage & Recycling office is closed for all major holidays.

What do I do if my pick-up was missed or not set out in time?2017-03-03T22:16:57+00:00

Call us at (541) 382-2263. If we missed the pick-up, we can credit your account, pick up extra trash the following week at no charge or have the driver go back if he is still in your neighborhood. If your cart was not set out in time a “Go Back” charge may apply if the driver is already out of the immediate area.

Yes, we can pick up any extra items that won’t fit in your trash cart for a reasonable fee. Examples include: beds, couches, hot tub covers, appliances, BBQ’s, TVs, etc. Recyclable items will be taken to a facility for recycling. Contact our office for more information.

Yes, we provide on-site cleanup services including garage cleanouts, junk piles, and more. We also offer temporary Rent-A-Bin containers if you’d like to do the cleanup yourself. Contact our office and we will send a representative out to provide an estimate. Recyclable items will be taken to a facility for recycling. Remember to reuse and recycle whenever possible.

Lids slightly up, no more than 3-4 inches will not incur an additional charge.

Lids popped up more than 3-4 inches are considered overfull and would incur an additional charge. As well as small or large bags on top of or beside the roll cart will be charged as such. Rock, sod, dirt, heavy steel, household hazardous waste and hot ashes. Scrap metal can be heavy and is not meant for your roll cart or our trucks. They could potentially make the cart too heavy for the mechanical arm to lift and are likely to cause damage to the truck itself. Please call us for other options for disposal of heavy material.

What is the maximum weight for my roll cart?2017-03-09T18:32:17+00:00

Our trucks may not be able to support the weight of a cart after a certain point. The maximum weight for a 35-gallon roll cart is 120 lbs. 65-gallon and 95-gallon are a maximum of 200 lbs.

No, the trucks are automated. Please do not place bungee cords, duct tape or rocks on roll cart lids.

We offer a Commercial Food Waste program within Bend city limits for an additional fee. The material will be recycled into nutrient-rich compost at our sister company, Deschutes Recycling. Please visit our food waste page for more information.

“If It Grows, It Goes!” Acceptable materials include: Grass clippings, brush, weeds, pine needles, plant prunings, branches no larger than 2” in diameter and 36” in length. Food waste including meat, dairy, produce and bakery items. Coffee grounds & filters and tea bags (no strings) are also accepted.

Please do not bag the material, place directly in the cart.

Unacceptable materials include: plastic bags of any kind, produce bags and stickers, plastic wrap, plastic containers, processed or cooked fruits or vegetables, animal product, food ware (paper plates, plastic cups/utensils), garden equipment, garden hoses, rocks, sod, dirt, or garbage.

Can I recycle my Christmas tree in my yard debris cart?2017-03-03T22:10:10+00:00

Yes, Christmas trees can be recycled in your yard debris cart. Cut the tree down to 3 or 4 smaller pieces so it can fit into your yard debris cart. Trees must be clean – no flocking, ornaments, tinsel or wire.

Yard debris is a yearly subscription service. When you sign up, you are agreeing to keep the service for the entire year. Early cancellation fee is $10.00. There is also a $10.00 fee to restart the service within the year.

The maximum weight limit for a 95 gallon yard debris cart is 200 lbs. Remember no rocks, dirt, sod or other heavy material that will make the cart too heavy.

You cannot dispose of hazardous or liquid waste in your garbage or recycling roll carts. Click on the Deschutes County Household Hazardous Waste or the State of Oregon Department of Equality (DEQ) for information on how and where to dispose of these materials and what is acceptable and not acceptable.

We have specially trained personnel for the collection and disposal of medical waste items used in your home or medical office. We also offer a walk in service at our office for sharps containers. These materials are disposed of safely and in accordance with state law.

 Sharps are accepted free of charge at Knott Landfill from household generators ONLY. Sharps must be in a leak-proof, puncture-proof, labeled container.

 Commercial sharps generated by medical facilities such as veterinary clinics, medical clinics and offices, hospitals and dentist offices are not accepted at any County Solid Waste facilities.

 Sharps CANNOT be put in your household trash.

No, plastic bags cannot be recycled curbside. Plastic bags get caught in the equipment used to sort recycling material and are the number one contaminate. You can recycle plastic bags and film at participating grocery stores.

Plastic bottles, tubs and jugs (6 ounces or larger), milk jugs, water bottles, shampoo bottle.

Rigid plastic tubs such as yogurt containers, sour cream & cottage cheese containers and butter tubs.

Rigid nursery plant pots (4 inches or larger), plastic buckets (5 gallons or less).

Do not rely on the recycling symbol or plastic numbers to identify which plastics are accepted in Central Oregon. Please refer to your recycling guide for what is accepted in your local recycling program.

Can I recycle motor oil?2017-03-03T21:54:29+00:00

Yes. If you are in the city limits of Bend, you can recycle motor oil curbside on your glass recycling days. Simply pour the motor oil into a container with a lid (such as a milk jug) and clearly label the container “Motor Oil”. Then place the container next to your glass recycling bin.

If you are not in the city limits of Bend, you can bring motor oil to Deschutes Recycling free of charge.

We can pick up electronics for recycling for a reasonable fee.

E-Waste can also be brought to Deschutes Recycling.

Computers, laptops, monitors, TVs, keyboards, mice and printers (desktop) can be dropped off free of charge. All other electronic components can be recycled for a reasonable fee.

Yes. Bag all loose paper in a paper bag so it won’t fly out. Never bag material in plastic bags if you are placing in the recycling cart. Plastic bags cannot be recycled curbside.

Residential and commercial customers are billed monthly for the previous month’s service, (for example; in January you will receive the bill for December).  Payment due by the 20th of each month.
