Food Waste Collection

Bend Garbage & Recycling offers a food waste collection service for our commercial customers within the city of Bend. Commercial customers have the opportunity to recycle their food waste and keep this material out of the landfill. The material goes to Deschutes Recycling where it will be processed into nutrient-rich compost.

What can go in the cart?

All food including meat, seafood, bones, fruits, vegetables, dairy products, bakery products, rice, pasta, beans, coffee grounds & filters, tea leaves, egg shells, paper napkins and sauces.

What can not go in the cart?

No plastic bags, compostable bags, produce stickers, plastic containers, clear plastic clamshells, paper packaging, foil, grease & oils, seafood shells, food ware, utensils, metal, Styrofoam or garbage.

Food waste is collected in 65 gallon roll carts and can be serviced once or twice a week depending on your needs. Carts are rinsed after each service (weather permitting.) Carts can be swapped out when needed.
